Burnham And Cote Named Piper Atlhletes Of The Month
KelseyBurnham of the Bantam Girls Badminton Team and Johnathan Cote of the Senior Boy’s Badminton Team have been named the Piper Athletes of the month for April after helping their school retain the badminton trophy.
Burnham is a grade 8 student from Lennoxville that won the gold medal at the 43rd Alexander Galt Invitational Badminton Tournament. With a number of schools present at the tournament from Montreal to Sherbrooke Burnham demonstrated her fine badminton skills in singles competition by going undefeated throughout the tournament as she smashed and dropped her way to the gold medal. The three-sport athlete (soccer, basketball and badminton) is also on the Principal’s List for her high academic achievements. The Lennoxville Elementary Grad will be challenged next season when she makes the jump to the junior ranks, but it will be something that she will look forward to as she continues to grow.
Cote is a graduating student from Compton that won the silver medal in senior singles competition at the Badminton Tournament. After only four weeks of training Cote pushed his opponent from Centennial High School who had been training all year to the limit. The 16 year old lost 22-20 and 21-19 to the top Provincial player in the gold medal match after going 7-1 in the round robin. The Lennoxville Elementary Grad showed great composure and athleticism throughout the day especially in a very exciting and entertaining final with a few hundred people looking on. It was a fine way for the Principal’s List student to end his high school athletic career with the class and sportsmanship he has demonstrated at Galt for five years. Cote will continue his educational studies at Champlain College next year.
Special thank you to Steve Walker and his staff for running another classy and successful badminton tournament, which consisted of 400 matches.
