Oncea­gain this year, The Ro­tary Club of the Bound­ary, is of­fer­ing two vo­ca­tional schol­ar­ships in this area. Th­ese schol­ar­ships, are of­fered to a grad­u­at­ing stu­dent who wishes to fur­ther their ed­u­ca­tion in the vo­ca­tion that they have cho­sen to fol­low. Th­ese vo­ca­tions are those of tech­ni­cal na­ture (i.e. agri­cul­ture, car­pen­try, me­chanic, re­frig­er­a­tion, hos­pi­tal­ity, etc.), and are geared to col­lege ca­reer ori­ented pro­grams, rather than univer­sity. One is is­sued to a Cana­dian stu­dent re­sid­ing in the Bound­ary area in­clud­ing Ay­ers Cliff, Hat­ley and North Hat­ley and im­me­di­ate area, and the other to a U.S. stu­dent re­sid­ing in Derby Line, Derby, Hol­land, Mor­gan, Charleston and im­me­di­ate area.

The Club has named th­ese schol­ar­ships “The Paul Lu­cas Vo­ca­tional Schol­ar­ships”, in mem­ory of Paul, who was in­stru­men­tal in sug­gest­ing th­ese awards.

Th­ese awards will be based on the ap­pli­cants’ fi­nan­cial need, scholas­tic record, demon­strat­ing ded­i­ca­tion and de­sire to pur­sue a vo­ca­tional ca­reer, and the rec­om­men­da­tions of the school guid­ance per­son­nel and teach­ers. Each cho­sen re­cip­i­ent will be awarded $750.00, payable to the ed­u­ca­tional in­sti­tu­tion from which they have been ac­cepted. The Ro­tary Club of the Bound­ary, will make the fi­nal se­lec­tion from the ap­pli­ca­tions re­ceived, and stu­dents will be guests of the club to re­ceive their award.

Ap­pli­cants may make for­mal ap­pli­ca­tion by sub­mit­ting a let­ter, out­lin­ing the ca­reer goals, and a de­scrip­tion of com­mu­nity ac­tiv­i­ties they have been in­volved in and why Ro­tary should sup­port their con­tin­u­ing stud­ies. This let­ter must be ac­com­pa­nied by an ab­stract of their grades, as well as a let­ters of rec­om­men­da­tion from their teacher, and a char­ac­ter let­ter from a mem­ber of their com­mu­nity.
