Lowest turnout in years

Stanstead Journal - - NEWS - Staff Stanstead

From the outside, it looked like Monday’s Stanstead town meeting finally had attracted a full-packed house, cars lining both sides of Dufferin Street. As soon as we parked, dozens quit in droves from City Hall. We had been fooled! Yes, dozens had come, but to claim a prize!

So it is with exactly one member of the general public, a paramedic and the Fire Chief, present because of the prize giving, and three members of the press that the meeting proceeded.

We learned… Not much.

Well, we will get $1,000 in lease fees from the RCMP when they install some cameras on two poles, bringing a remark from councillor Guy Ouellet that they can plant more if they want.

That we will not send a lawyer to represent the town in a suit brought by a downtown developer, the town being sure of winning in Small Claims Court.

And that the bakery will expand by 41.5 square meters! The area allowed being 25 meters, this is considered a minor derogation. Do the math and try explaining to your teenager that midnight is not four in the morning.
