Fishing rods a requirement this weekend!
If you’d like to introduce your youngster or teenager to the relaxing sport of fishing, then this weekend may be the right time to do it. The annual
event, where children ranging in age from twelve to seventeen can try out fishing for free, will be taking place on Saturday, from9:30 am to 2:30 pm, at the municipal wharf, in Ayer’s Cliff, and on Sunday, from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm, at the Federal wharf in North Hatley. Children who take part will also be eligible for a fishing licence card provided by the Government of Quebec (for this age group only).
These events are sponsored by the
which buys small, one to four pound fish, usually speckled and rainbow trout because they’re easy for the children to catch, and releases them into a netted off area at the wharves.
Besides a chance to learn about fishing and spend a relaxing time by beautiful Lake Massawippi, there will be free hot-dogs, refreshments and facepainting. Everyone must bring their own fishing rods!
The activities are also supported by the Government of Quebec, the Municipalities of Ayer’s Cliff, North Hatley, and Canton de Hatley, Canadian Tire, The Tillotson Coaticook Regional Fund, Inter Marché Guy Patry & Fils, and Lebaron J.B.Ltd.
Results from the
annual Fishing Tournament, which concluded last month, are up on the club’s website along with some photos of some of the huge fish that were caught. They will be playing against teams from across Canada. There are approximately 50 teams each year.
