Golf raises $11,000 for CAB
TheCAB RH Rediker’s major fundraiser, the golf tournament which took place last Saturday at the Dufferin Heights Golf Club, gets better every year, this time raising $11,000 for the community organization that provides important services to people of all ages. There were thirty foursomes for the tournament and about 140 people attended the mechoui supper.
“We’re grateful to all the sponsors and participants who have returned every year. The Three Villages aren’t that big so we have to keep asking the same people for support,” explained Robert Galazzo who organizes the event along with Andre Gaulin and Arthur LaPenna.
“I’d like to thank Brian Carruthers of Campbell & Bellam for sponsoring hole # 4 for $20,000 and the André Roy IGA for sponsoring hole # 14 and providing fruit and snacks for the golfers. I’d also like to thank our main organizers: Arthur and Diane LaPenna, Gisele Galazzo, Andre
Gaulin, Mylene LaBonté, Josianne Caillet, Lynn Wood, Wayne Smith, Linda Durocher and Denis Parent,” said Mr. Galazzo.
The CAB RH Rediker’s director, Mylene LaBonté, was thrilled with this year’s results. “I’d like to say a great big thank-you to the organizers. They work really hard on this, going out into the field looking for sponsors and donations. All the people in place who organize this event have different areas of expertise, which are put to use, and that seems to benefit the whole fundraiser. We’re lucky that they found us,” she said, add- ing: “The weather was great, the mechoui was great, and the site and the staff of the Dufferin Heights club are excellent.”
Although the CAB RH Rediker offers services right across the board, it only receives a few government subsidies. It also goes after smaller grants from community organizations such as the Tillotson Regional Coaticook Fund which recently gave them money to buy a defibrillator and new exercise mats. Fundraisers such as the golf tournament are crucial to its operations.
Some of the special prize and drawing winners were: the foursome of Denis Parent, Alain Grenier, Dexter Wing and Brian Carruthers won the drawing from among the top teams, while the Gaetan Rouleau team won the drawing from among those teams with the most ‘honest’ score. Normand Gelinas received a nice prize for landing a ball “closest to the pin”. Emilia Stone was the lucky winner of a 40 inch TV from Brunelle Electronique, in Coaticook. Organizer André Gaulin was lucky enough to win a $100 certificate from the Eastside Restaurant, in Newport.
Three members of a foursome at the CAB Golf Tournament, held last Saturday at the Dufferin Heights Golf Club, were (l. to r.) Bernard Otis, Terry Hawes and Richard Aubé.
