The34th edition of Townshippers’ Day is shaping up to be one of the best yet with satirical musical duo Bowser and Blue and singer songwriter Amos Joannides among the lineup of confirmed entertainers. This year the bilingual festival takes place, rain or shine, on Saturday, September 14, 2013. From 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bishop’s College School in Lennoxville.

Townshippers’ Day is one of the largest annual events for the Englishspeaking community of the Eastern Townships to celebrate their culture and heritage, drawing an estimated 5,000 and 10,000 visitors from across Quebec and beyond.

“One fun-filled day of family friendly activities and entertainment gives us the opportunity to shine a spotlight on our English-speaking community and highlight the collaborations that exist with our French-speaking neighbours,” said Rachel Hunting, Executive Director of Townshippers’ Association and Chair of the Organizing Committee. “We are thrilled with the vibrant and diverse collection of talent that will be joining us this year to help us create stronger links between our own community and our linguistically diverse neighbours.”

Since 1978, Montreal artists George Bowser and Rick Blue have been brandishing their own blend of sardonic wit and music on stages across North America. Canada’s Favourite Musical Comedy Duo have appeared frequently at the Just for Laughs comedy festival and are known for their topical humour.

Joining the live action is original townships singer songwriter Amos Joannides. With his second album, “I want to see you smile”, Amos aspired “to bring audience members to a place where it’s really ok to smile, laugh, and maybe even dance a little.” Amos recently ranked as one of the top five performers in Montreal CBC’s Searchlight Contest and is preparing to launch a new song this summer.

Amos is just one of several local entertainers that will be featured in the performance tent for 2013. Throughout the festival site visitors will be able to enjoy a variety of activities and flavours that promote and showcase the English-speaking community as well as network with services and organizations. The opening ceremonies start at 10:30 a.m. and include a presentation of two community recognition awards; the Outstanding Townshippers and Young Townships Leaders.
