The Sureté du Quebec has increased its policing of recreotourist sites and activities in the last few years. Since May of this year, water patrollers have carried out operations on 22 water courses. During those operations, 151 boats were intercepted and 18 fines were handed out for not having enough lifejackets on board. Those fines are $500 plus fees. Thirteen boats were pulled out of the water for multiple infractions that posed safety risks to their passengers. The police also gave out 173 warnings to people for several different infractions.
