Bor­der Mi­nor Hockey News – Golf Tour­na­ment in Au­gust

Regis­tra­tion for Bor­der Mi­nor Hockey League will be tak­ing place soon, for the first time on both sides of the bor­der. Chil­dren aged four to fif­teen can get reg­is­tered two Satur­days in a row at the Pat Burns Arena, on July 27th and Au­gust 3rd, from 9:00 to noon, and on Au­gust 10th, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, at Olympia Sports, in Derby.

Chil­dren play­ing for a first time are able to reg­is­ter at the dis­count price of $250 for the sea­son, a sav­ing of more than $150. Last year’s reg­u­lar fee to play was around $465, how­ever, or­ga­niz­ers are hop­ing to bring that price down a lit­tle this year.

The or­ga­ni­za­tion has sec­ond hand equip­ment avail­able for those who need it, mak­ing it much more af­ford­able to break into this costly sport. A cer­tain amount of fi­nan­cial sup­port is also avail­able for peo­ple who would like their child to try out hockey but who don’t have the ex­tra money for regis­tra­tion and equip­ment.

Plan­ning has be­gun for the league’s an­nual golf tour­na­ment, an im­por­tant fundraiser that helps keep the regis­tra­tion fees as low as pos­si­ble and pay for ex­pen­sive ice time. The tour­na­ment will be held on Au­gust 17th, at the New­port Coun­try Club. Four­somes pay $300 to play while a hole spon­sor­ship costs $100.
