Border Minor Hockey News – Golf Tournament in August
Registration for Border Minor Hockey League will be taking place soon, for the first time on both sides of the border. Children aged four to fifteen can get registered two Saturdays in a row at the Pat Burns Arena, on July 27th and August 3rd, from 9:00 to noon, and on August 10th, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, at Olympia Sports, in Derby.
Children playing for a first time are able to register at the discount price of $250 for the season, a saving of more than $150. Last year’s regular fee to play was around $465, however, organizers are hoping to bring that price down a little this year.
The organization has second hand equipment available for those who need it, making it much more affordable to break into this costly sport. A certain amount of financial support is also available for people who would like their child to try out hockey but who don’t have the extra money for registration and equipment.
If anyone is interested in taking a coaching or refereeing course, people to fill these positions are always needed, or for any additional information , call Dave Dubois at 819 876-7606, or Emily Vaillancourt at 819 876-2117, or go to the website at www.borderhockey.net.
Planning has begun for the league’s annual golf tournament, an important fundraiser that helps keep the registration fees as low as possible and pay for expensive ice time. The tournament will be held on August 17th, at the Newport Country Club. Foursomes pay $300 to play while a hole sponsorship costs $100.
