Principals heading back to classrooms

Stanstead Journal - - NEWS - Victoria Vanier

After a recent restructuring of administrative positions in the schools of the Eastern Townships School Board, the principals of several local schools will be spending some time teaching regular classes in their schools come September. The changes to the ‘weights’ of the positions of principals were a result of, according to ETSB minutes : “the review of relevant criteria, including student enrollment and the proportion of special needs students.”

At Stanstead’s Sunnyside Elementary, the 50% principal position increased to a 60% position. Steve Weary will return as principal and will hold a 40% teaching position as well. Ayer’s Cliff Elementary teacher Del Springate will take on the 50% principal position vacated by Steve Weary. Head teacher Nicole Gregoire, of North Hatley Elementary, will take on that school’s 30% principal position.

The 70% principal position at Princess Elizabeth Elementary has increased to a 100% principal position. Elaine Baylis Creary will continue as the principal there. The principal position at Mansonville Elementary goes from a 40% position to 30% and Nathalie Chartrand is expected to fill that.

Because of declining student enrollment, the 80% principal position at the Eastern Townships Learning Centre is now a 60% principal/20% teaching position and Velma Sutherland is expected to return.
