The Or­ford Fes­ti­val is off to a great start!

Un­tilAu­gust 18, sev­eral artists will step on the GillesLe­feb­vre stage at the Or­ford Arts Cen­tre (OAC). Mae­stro JeanFrançois Rivest care­fully pre­pared the Fes­ti­val’s pro­gram, which of­fers to mu­sic lovers more than 40 con­certs and ac­tiv­i­ties that re­volve around this year’s theme, The Tchaikovsky Ex­pe­ri­ence.

Young prodi­gies like pian­ists Kiaoyu Liu and Marika Bour­naki will have a place of hon­our dur­ing the Fes­ti­val, to­gether with the Or­ford Acad­emy Orches­tra’s guest soloists Jan Lisieski, Stéphane Té­trault and Ti­mothy Chooi. “It is with great plea­sure that we of­fer a di­ver­si­fied pro­gram that show­cases both young prodi­gies and great mu­si­cians of our time. We make it our per­sonal duty to pro­vide stu­dents of the Or­ford Acad­emy with prime spots in our pro­gram so that they can fully ex­pe­ri­ence the stage,” ex­plains Artis­tic Di­rec­tor Jean-François Rivest. In ad­di­tion to the 21 pro­fes­sional con­certs pre­sented at the Gilles-Le­febve con­cert hall, the 2013 Or­ford Fes­ti­val’s pro­gram sug­gests many free ac­tiv­i­ties, such as Les beaux con­certs de la relève, which will take place Thurs­days and Sun­days dur­ing the Fes­ti­val and con­sti­tutes an ex­cel­lent oc­ca­sion to dis­cover new mu­si­cal tal­ents. As part of the Or­ford sur la route con­cert se­ries, a few churches, like those of North Hat­ley and Mont-Saint-Hi­laire, will wel­come the Acad­emy’s mu­si­cians. More­over, peo­ple are cor­dially in­vited at the OAC to view some Opera master­pieces and to browse through our vis­ual arts exhibitions. Fi­nally, Tues­day night mas­ter classes are an ex­cel­lent oc­ca­sion to wit­ness the Acad­emy’s renowned pro­fes­sors in ac­tion.
