Big project in North Hatley

Stanstead Journal - - NEWS - Victoria Vanier North Hatley

A public consultation meeting was held in North Hatley on Monday night, before the regular monthly meeting, to discuss changes to three important bylaws. First drafts of the changes were adopted during July’s monthly meeting. In by-law 2013-568, the definitions of “Beach shed” “Guesthouse” and “Hedge” will be added as well as new regulations for wind turbines. “We’re getting more restrictive on wind turbines. The maximum height will be 15 metres, including the blade,” explained the town’s General Manager, Leonard Castagner. By-law 2013-569 will see changes to the minimum size of lots in different zones, and by-law 2013570 deals with fences and commercial terraces.

During the regular meeting, many residents had questions about a major construction project being considered in the heart of the village. The project would see the construction of a facility that would consist of condominiums, apartments and a senior’s residence, located in the area between the downtown parking lot, Capelton Road and Main Street. With residents showing so much concern about the major project, mayor Michael Page called for an information meeting on the subject to be held at the Community Centre on August 28th, at 7:00 pm.
