The Cougars are coming!
For the first time ever, AAA hockey is coming to Stanstead! The Champlain Cougars will play a game against one of their ultimate rivals and the winners of last year’s hockey season, the Inouk de Granby, on Friday night, August 23rd, at the Pat Burns Arena. Besides providing what is sure to be exciting, fast-paced hockey, the event will also be a fundraiser for not only the Cougars, but also for the Border Minor Hockey Association. “One dollar from each ticket sold will go towards the Border Minor Hockey. We’ll also do a half and half draw and split that between the Cougars and Border Hockey. My goal is to raise about $600 or $700 dollars for Border Hockey – they can really use the money,” commented town councillor Guy Ouellet who is helping to organize the event. The proceeds of the bar sales will also be split between the Cougars and the local league.
“There is a huge rivalry between the Cougars and Granby, like the rivalry between the Nordiques and the Canadiens. We’re expecting about one hundred people from Granby and Sherbrooke to watch the game. The Inouk are a really strong team so we will need six players on the ice!” said Mr. Ouellet, referring to a boisterous home crowd.
The Cougars will also be doing their training camp at the Pat Burns Arena this year, beginning on August 19th. “This is the first time that the Cougars are coming here to train,” added Mr. Ouellet whose son, Shawn Ouellet, is the team’s goaltender.
Tickets ($5 for adults, $3 for kids) can be bought at the Pat Burns Arena or from Guy Ouellet by calling 819 876-2621 or 819 345-7571.
