Compton-Stanstead riding may grow

Stanstead Journal - - NEWS - Victoria Vanier

In an exercise that takes place every ten years, the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission has proposed several changes to the Compton-Stanstead riding, presently held by New Democratic Party MP, Jean Rousseau.

Those changes would see the addition of the City of Sherbrooke to the riding, except for the Boroughs of Jacques Cartier and Mont Bellevue, and parts of the Boroughs of Fleurimont and Brompton. The riding now consists of the Regional Municipal Counties of Coaticook and the Haut St. Francois, eight of the Memphremagog MRC’s municipalities, and the municipality of Stoke.

This revision takes place after the census is taken, to reflect changes in population and growth. A public hearing regarding possible changes to the boundaries of the Compton-Stanstead riding was held in Sherbrooke on October 26th, 2012, at the Sherbrooke Court House.
