Michael Goldbloom reappointed to a second term as Principal and Vice-chancellor of Bishop’s University
Dr.Robert Gordon, ’60, D.C.L. 2004, Chair of the Board of Governors, is pleased to announce that Principal and Vice- Chancellor Michael Goldbloom has been appointed to a second five-year term as Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Bishop’s University as of July 1, 2013.
Expressing the unanimous appreciation of the Board of Governors, Dr. Gordon said: “We are extremely pleased that Principal Goldbloom has agreed to serve for a second term. He has an outstanding record of achievement during his first term, including a 40% increase in full- time enrolment, a renewal of the professoriate, an improved labour relations climate, the reform of governance structures, significant improvement in the financial position of the University, major infrastructure investments and the implementation of the U4 League, an innovative collaboration with three other Canadian, pri- marily undergraduate, universities. We look forward to continuing strong leadership during Principal Goldbloom’s second mandate”.
In accepting this appointment, Me Goldbloom commented: “Bishop’s University provides a first-rate liberal education to young people from Quebec, Canada and around the world. I am pleased to continue to work with all members of our University community to enhance further the quality of the educational experience for our students”.
Prior to joining Bishop’s University in 2008, Michael Goldbloom had served as Publisher of the Toronto Star and of The Gazette in Montreal, as Chief Executive Officer of the YMCA de Montreal and as Vice-Principal Public Affairs of McGill University. He began his career in private practice at the Martineau Walker law firm in Montreal.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University, as well as a Bachelor of Civil Law (B.C.L.) and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from McGill University. Principal Goldbloom’s extensive record of community leadership includes service on the Boards of the Université Sherbrooke, the Centre hospitalier universitaire de Sherbrooke (CHUS), the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres and the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada. He has served as President of Alliance Quebec and as Chairman of the Boards of the VilleMarie Social Services Centre, of Selwyn House School and of the Fondation des YMCA du Québec.
