Tom Allen announces retirement from RSEQ
Allen will be retiring from his position as the Commissioner of the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) at the end of the 2013-2014 season. He has held the position for five years. With a background in Education and History, Mr. Allen was the sports director at Champlain College from 1973 to 1979, the sports director at Bishop’s University, a member of the administrative council of the Sherbrooke Jeux du Quebec, in 1995, and the president of Canadian Interuniversity Sport in 1998- 1999.
“I’d like to thank the RSEQ for having confidence in me during my mandate. Being a part of this network for so many years has allowed me to experience many memorable moments and, for that, I’ll be eternally grateful,” said Mr. Allen.
For their part, the RSEQ would like to emphasize the contribution and the exceptional devotion of Mr. Allen during his years as Commissioner. Under his governance, university football experienced exceptional growth at the provincial level and student athletes had a chance to shine at the national level.
“Tom was a big ally in the cause of university football. His leadership, his vast experience and his deep understanding of student sport made Mr. Allen a considerable asset,” said Alain Roy, the general director of the RSEQ.
Mr. Allen’s successor has not yet been named.
