Galt Sports Action
The high school soccer and football seasons have begun and Galt athletes should look pretty good in their new Nike uniforms. The Galt Bantam boys lost 5 to 1 to Massey-Vanier ( MVR) with the only Galt goal coming from Justin Schoolcraft. The Junior boys won 3 to 1 against MVR. Galt goals were scored by Matthew Hornibrook, and Diego de Alba Ramos who scored twice. The senior boys tied MVR 3 to 3. Alex McKinney scored once while Brandon Desruisseaux scored his second goal with 30 seconds left to tie the game.
In girls soccer, the Junior girls beat Bishop’s College School with a resounding score of 11 to 0. Sarah Landry scored four times, Shannon Brouillette had three goals, Megan Paxton scored twice, and Kelsey Burnham and Megan Buzzell scored once each. The Bantam girls played Richmond, winning 8 to 0. Goals were scored by Marianne Noel (4), Adreanna Whalen (2), Leanne Marmonnier and Caroline Fisette. Last weekend, Stanstead College held a soccer tournament for the Senior girls teams, which Stanstead College won; the Galt girls finished in second place. In game 1, Galt beat Sacred Heart 1 to 0 with a goal by Hannah Hornibrook. Game 2 saw Galt lose their only game of the day to Stanstead, 2 to 0. Game 3 was a 3 to 0 victory over BCS. Goals were by Haley Pinkston, Eliza Stevens and Myriam Elkas. In game 4, Galt beat The Study 4 to 0 with goals by Courtney Burnham (2), Lindsay Moore and Hannah Hornibrook. Goalkeeper Alex Bibeau recorded three shut-outs.
After a four-year hiatus, the Galt Bantam football program is back. “They played their first game in four years and won 34 to 24 against La Poudriere, from Drummondville,” commented Galt’s Athletic Director, Robert Fisk. Jarod Stone had three touchdowns and Michale Villeneuve had one. The Senior football team lost 20 to 13 to Polyvalente Belanger, from St. Martin. Loik Desfosses scored one touchdown on a 12 yard pass, but got injured later in the game and will miss the rest of the season. Sean Giddings scored the other touchdown on a 7 yard run.
