The high school soc­cer and football sea­sons have be­gun and Galt ath­letes should look pretty good in their new Nike uni­forms. The Galt Ban­tam boys lost 5 to 1 to Massey-Vanier ( MVR) with the only Galt goal com­ing from Justin School­craft. The Ju­nior boys won 3 to 1 against MVR. Galt goals were scored by Matthew Horni­brook, and Diego de Alba Ramos who scored twice. The se­nior boys tied MVR 3 to 3. Alex McKin­ney scored once while Bran­don Des­ruis­seaux scored his sec­ond goal with 30 sec­onds left to tie the game.

In girls soc­cer, the Ju­nior girls beat Bishop’s Col­lege School with a re­sound­ing score of 11 to 0. Sarah Landry scored four times, Shan­non Brouil­lette had three goals, Me­gan Pax­ton scored twice, and Kelsey Burn­ham and Me­gan Buzzell scored once each. The Ban­tam girls played Rich­mond, win­ning 8 to 0. Goals were scored by Mar­i­anne Noel (4), Adreanna Whalen (2), Leanne Mar­mon­nier and Caro­line Fisette. Last week­end, Stanstead Col­lege held a soc­cer tour­na­ment for the Se­nior girls teams, which Stanstead Col­lege won; the Galt girls fin­ished in sec­ond place. In game 1, Galt beat Sa­cred Heart 1 to 0 with a goal by Han­nah Horni­brook. Game 2 saw Galt lose their only game of the day to Stanstead, 2 to 0. Game 3 was a 3 to 0 vic­tory over BCS. Goals were by Ha­ley Pinkston, Eliza Stevens and Myr­iam Elkas. In game 4, Galt beat The Study 4 to 0 with goals by Court­ney Burn­ham (2), Lind­say Moore and Han­nah Horni­brook. Goal­keeper Alex Bibeau recorded three shut-outs.

Af­ter a four-year hiatus, the Galt Ban­tam football pro­gram is back. “They played their first game in four years and won 34 to 24 against La Poudriere, from Drum­mondville,” com­mented Galt’s Ath­letic Di­rec­tor, Robert Fisk. Jarod Stone had three touch­downs and Michale Vil­leneuve had one. The Se­nior football team lost 20 to 13 to Poly­va­lente Be­langer, from St. Martin. Loik Des­fos­ses scored one touch­down on a 12 yard pass, but got in­jured later in the game and will miss the rest of the sea­son. Sean Gid­dings scored the other touch­down on a 7 yard run.
