Gift of Charest Island to the City of Magog: MCI applauds the gesture!
Residents and visitors to Magog will soon be able to benefit from Charest Island, situated right next to Merry Point, at the entrance to the Magog River. In fact, this island of about 6,000 square metres was gifted to the City of Magog by the family of former Quebec Premier Jean Charest. MCI supports and applauds this gesture!
According to Mrs. Gisèle Lacasse Benoit, President of MCI: “This generous gesture can only benefit the environment of the lake as well as the citizens of the region, who will be able to enjoy the use of the island, which will be transformed into a park. It is a plus for the residents of the region, a plus for the city, a plus for the lake, and, of course, a plus for the environment! Bravo!”
MCI works towards the protection and conservation of natural landscapes in the Lake Memphremagog watershed thanks to the participation of private property owners, via ecological gifts, conservation easements, or private nature reserves, with the objective of preserving the natural beauty, biodiversity and health of the lake. Since 2009, more than 600 hectares have been protected thanks to the work of MCI and its partners.
MCI congratulates Mayor Vicki May Hamm and her counsellors for having accepted this gift, and warmly thank the Charest family for their most generous gift which will benefit current and future generations.
