Derby’s Line on topic at Colby
It’s surprising the effect that an imaginary line can have on a society, especially when that line is a border between two countries. At this Saturday’s Lecture-Luncheon of the Stanstead Historical Society, which will be held in the Museum’s beautiful solarium, an American historian will speak about how the boundaries and the Township of Derby were affected by historical circumstances from the late 1800’s to today. Allen Yale, the president of the Derby Historical Society, is crossing the border to speak about this fascinating topic in Canada, where things have evolved quite differently. His lecture is entitled “The Changing Borders of Derby”.
Besides being the president of the Derby Historical Society, Mr. Yale has taught Social Studies at the high school level and history at London State College, in Vermont.
The lecture-luncheon begins at 10:30 am, Saturday, September 28th, and is open to all. The admission fee includes lunch. For more information call the Colby-Curtis Museum at 819 876-7322.
