Flower pot moved to sneak in
Last Sunday, RCMP agents intercepted a 31 year-old woman accompanied by six children after illegally crossing the American border to enter Canada. Simona Ciuciu, originally of Romania, had to move a flower pot that had been installed in the centre of Church Street, in Stanstead, to get into the country. According to lawyer Myriam Lachance, the Crown Prosecutor, the woman also entered into the United States illegally.
The six children were given over to the youth protection services, while it is established where they came from and where they were going. Also according to the Crown Prosecutor, the spouse of Simona Ciuciu, Serafin Cirnaru, is presently being detained in Bordeaux jail, in Montreal. The 39 year-old Romanian was arrested on September 16th, 2013. It is suspected that he is at the head of a large human-trafficking network.
Simona Ciuciu appeared before Judge Conrad Chapdelaine. Maitre Lachance was opposed to her being released until Immigration Canada takes charge of the file.
