Bishop’s Men Help Celebrate 45 Years Of Unb Rugby
There will be 2,200 people taking part in the 6th edition of the XTRAIL Asics running competition taking place this Saturday on Mt. Orford. The Orford edition of this trail race is the most popular in Canada. Reds are perennially one of the top teams in the Maritimes while the Gaiters have struggled so far in the RSEQ.
The Bishop’s ‘A’ side was led once again by Andrew Jamieson (Montreal) who was named ‘ Man- of- theMatch’ as he led the purple and silver to a 25-15 victory. Shayne Crawford (Sherbrooke, Que.), Nicolas Charleton (North Hatley, Que.) and Blake Drohan (Toronto) also played strong games.
“Andrew Jamieson was excellent,” said Robson. “This trip really helped our moral as we had been struggling a little bit. Our forwards figured it out and we have some excellent backs that can really make a difference.”
The ‘B’ team followed in the shadow of the ‘A’ team success. They posted a 29-24 victory over their UNB counterparts.
“There will be some players on the B-side that will be key contributors on the A-team next year,” added Robson. “I’m happy with everyone’s performance throughout the weekend at this event.”
The Bishop’s University men’s rugby team will be back in action in the RSEQ on Saturday, Sept. 26 when they face the Sherbrooke Vert et Or in Sherbrooke at 11 a.m. The Gaiters will need a victory as they currently sit at 1-4 and on the outside looking in at the playoffs with three games remaining.
