More women in this year's race
There has been an increase of 10.6 % in the number of women candidates in the 2013 municipal elections from the elections of 2009. This time, 26.7 % of the candidates are female. 235 women ran in 2009 compared to 260 running in this election. There has also been an increase of 4.9 % in candidates overall.
The number of young people (aged between 18 and 34) running in the election has decreased, going from 9.4 %, in 2009, to 8.5 %. 31.7 % of those candidates are feminine.
The MRCs with the biggest number of female candidates are the Granit MRC (30.9 %) and the Haut St. Francois MRC (30 %). The Val St Francois MRC has the fewest women candidates at 17.8 %.
