More women in this year's race

There has been an in­crease of 10.6 % in the num­ber of women can­di­dates in the 2013 mu­nic­i­pal elec­tions from the elec­tions of 2009. This time, 26.7 % of the can­di­dates are fe­male. 235 women ran in 2009 com­pared to 260 run­ning in this elec­tion. There has also been an in­crease of 4.9 % in can­di­dates over­all.

The num­ber of young peo­ple (aged be­tween 18 and 34) run­ning in the elec­tion has de­creased, go­ing from 9.4 %, in 2009, to 8.5 %. 31.7 % of those can­di­dates are fem­i­nine.

The MRCs with the big­gest num­ber of fe­male can­di­dates are the Granit MRC (30.9 %) and the Haut St. Fran­cois MRC (30 %). The Val St Fran­cois MRC has the fewest women can­di­dates at 17.8 %.
