Two seats up for grabs

Stanstead Journal - - NEWS - Vioctoria Vanier Stanstead

There are two council seats up for grabs, in Stanstead, where much of the council was elected by acclamation. Only about ninety people came out for the advance vote, last Sunday, which has some candidates a little worried that interest in the outcome of the vote is not as high as it should be.

Running for seat no. 2 is Rollande Rouleau and Serge Tougas. Mrs. Rouleau, the wife of the late Claude Rouleau who founded the C. Rouleau Granit company, is running for the first time for municipal government. “I decided to run because I believe it’s the time to do something to keep our young people here; our population is aging. We had four children and two were able to find work with our family business and so have stayed in this area. I’d like to see what we can do to bring more work here so that our young people will have more interest in staying,” said Mrs. Rouleau. “When my husband and I started the business it was very challenging. I think it’s important to help young people start their own businesses,” she added.
