O-Line Named Bishop’s Athletes Of The Week
The Bishop’s University Department of Athletics and Recreation is pleased to announce that the entire offensive line of the Gaiters football team have been named the Provigo Robert Lafond Athletes of the Week.
The offensive line had a stellar performance this weekend in the Gaiters 40-21 victory over the McGill Redmen. It was a record setting game that gave the Gaiters their first home playoff game since 1994.
Quarterback Jordan Heather (Oromocto, N.B.) was 26-47 with 484-yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Heather set the CIS single season passing record with 3132 yards. His 20 touchdown passes this year are the most ever in a single season in the RSEQ. Alexander Fox (Montreal) caught seven passes for 256-yards and four touchdowns on the day. The latter two are a Bishop’s single game records. He also set the RSEQ record for most career receiving touchdowns with 25. He became the 11th player in CIS history to reach the 1000-yard mark (1009) in a season, also a Gaiters record. Running back Matthew Burke (Timberlea, N.S.) rushed for 132-yards and had 35 yards receiving. The O-line provided the time and push for Heather, Fox and Burke to put up their great numbers and are often overlooked. The Gaiters offense as a unit put up 673 yards of offense. It is the third time this season they went over 600 yards and fifth consecutive week they were over 500.
The Gaiters will host the Montreal Carbins on Saturday Nov. 2 in an RSEQ semi-final on Coulter Field. It marks Gaiters first home play-off game since 1994. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
