A Soc­cer Sea­son For The Ages

Alexan­derGalt con­tin­ued to show its strength in the ETIAC soc­cer play offs this past week as five of six soc­cer teams made it to the cham­pi­onship games. The ban­tam and ju­nior girl’s teams capped off per­fect sea­sons by win­ning their cham­pi­onship game.

The ban­tam girls played their semi­fi­nal against Rich­mond Re­gional High School at Galt and won 5-0, se­cur­ing them a slot in the fi­nals. Strik­ers Leanne Mar­monier and Caro­line Fisette scored two goals each while Jaya Gre­goire added a goal of her own. The young Pipers squared off against the Vik­ings from Massey-Vanier in the cham­pi­onship game. The Pipers won all three reg­u­lar sea­son games by one goal so it was go­ing to be an­other close bat­tle un­til the end. Mar­monier got the girls from Galt go­ing when she drilled a shot in the far cor­ner mid­way through the first half. Gre­goire se­cured the Piper cham­pi­onship when she fin­ished off a nice pass­ing play with ten min­utes to go in the game. The win capped off a sea­son for the ages as they com­pleted a per­fect sea­son of 11-0.

The ju­nior girls looked to com­plete an un­de­feated sea­son and saved their finest play for the post sea­son. They dom­i­nated Massey Vanier for most of the play in the semi­fi­nals with a 4-0 win. League lead­ing goal scorer Shanon Brouil­let con­tin­ued her scor­ing ways in the play offs with a hat trick while Sofia van Zuiden added a sin­gle marker of her own. They
