Austin W. I. Musical Meeting
The monthly meeting of the Austin W.I. took place on Wednesday October 9th at the Austin home of Claudette Giesinger – beginning at 1:30 P.M. The meeting was opened in the usual manner with Pres. Debi Bonn thanking Claudette for again sharing her beautiful home for the special musical program and afternoon tea we were about to enjoy. MOTTO: If everyone cared enough An everyone shared enough, then everyone would have had enough. R. C. Read together the W.I. Prayer of Thanksgiving – Page 4 – Which was answered by 10 members. There were also 5 invited guests who were warmly welcomed – namely: Tina Linde; Thelma Ruck; Ann Mitchell; Marilyn Laurin & Anne Wolham. At 2:30 the meeting was pleasingly interrupted with Claudette presenting as follows: Fannie Gaudet - Pianist Fannie is from Rock Forest & is now mother of a little boy. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bishops & Masters degree in piano performances from Laval Univ. She teaches classes in Musical Skills & Musical History. Fannie has worked as co-musical director for Bishop’s productions as listed: “Half a Sixpence” A Beatles Midsummer Night’s Dream “The Balled of Romeo and Juliet” “The Tempest” “The Twelfth of Never” “Cinderella” “Beach Blanket Zombies” “St. Matthews Passion” MENDELSSOHN’S “Elijah” HEYDEN’S “Creation” ORFF’S “Carmana Burana” As a Chamber player Fannie has accompanied singers, Chellist and violinists. Besides working with Bishop Singers she also directs the music programs at Champlain Regional College. Isabelle Longpré – Violinist Isabelle was born in Sherbrooke, Que & began her studies at age 6. She plays with many Orchestras – Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Drummondville & Longueuil. She also performs as a Chamber Musician in the area & played with Rock Voisine in Monaco for the Princess. She played Kali Morrison, Jake & the Lepricon & many Pop/Rock groups. She is a very accomplished musician who likes to play many different styles of music. Lately both Fannie & Isabelle have been involved in many projects together with Bishops University singers. They are certainly two busy ladies! For more than an hour, all were treated to a most enjoyable rendition of songs as listed: CLERAMBAULT: Largo MASSENET: Meditation Thais KREISLER: Sicilienne; Chanson LOUIS XIII et Parane; schon Rosmarin; LIEBESHED ELGAR: Salut d’Amour LISZT: Finale was pianist Fannie with one of our own favourites of hers Beautiful Jeux d’eau à la Villa d’Este. Special request from Claudette: Fannie played PARLER-MOI d’Amour as all joined in singing along with her. On behalf of all present Claudette expressed sincere appreciation to both these gifted artists & invited them to stay & share tea of dainty sandwiches & squares which was served immediately following the recital. There was also a beautiful birthday cake to help celebrate Winnie Kirby’s 93rd Birthday! The next meeting of this branch will be held at the new home of Gerry Meesen.
