North Hatley’s new council members were “broken in” Monday night. “Our first meeting went well. Some of the new councillors were a little nervous so we were showing them how it works,” said reelected mayor Michael Page. The town’s Code of Ethics for employees and council members, first adopted two years ago, was re-adopted for the new members.

Five residents were in attendance with only one question about the water plant. “The building is done and now they are installing the big filtration units. It should be completed next June or July,” said Mr. Page. The mayor also gave his Mayor’s Speech which will be followed by a public budget meeting on December 16th. “Some of our public buildings will need work in the coming year, but we need to continue being responsible and watch what we spend. We will eventually have to start paying for the water plant, probably in 2015.”

In conclusion, Mr. Page commented: “I’m looking forward to working with the new members – I think we have a good team.”
