Animal Society Auction this Sunday

Stanstead Journal - - FORUM - Victoria Vanier Stanstead

craft auction this Sunday, November 24th, in the Reading Room of the Haskell Free Library. Buyers can have a preview of the items up for sale at 12:30 pm, and the auc- tion will begin at 1:00 pm sharp and run until about 4:00. Phil Desormeaux, who entertained last year’s audience by wearing an array of wild and wacky hats, will resume his duties as the auctioneer for this well-attended fundraiser.

Local artists donate creations for this auction while other supporters of the shelter donate other interesting items of all kinds, some of them destined for the silent auction table. “Stanley Holmes was always telling me to call him for some maple syrup, so this year I did. So we will also have some of his syrup, and honey from Raymond Belanger,” mentioned Joyce Dekker, the president of the Frontier Animal Society. Other donated items include handmade crafts and Christmas wreathes. All the money raised is used to support the animal shelter and badly needed with the cold winter months upon us. This annual auction is one of the Frontier Animal Society’s major fundraisers and typically raises enough to pay the heating costs over the winter.

“This year we were able to adopt out forty dogs,” said Ms. Dekker. Besides providing a home for abandoned or rescued dogs and cats, the Frontier Animal Society also holds cat neutering clinics about once a month.

Everyone is welcome to attend the auction; admission is free and wine and cheese will be served. You may just find that perfect gift for someone special, all the while helping to keep some adorable dogs and cats (check them out on the Frontier Animal Society website for yourself) warm this winter.

People are also welcome to donate old blankets, sheets and towels to the Frontier Animal Society. They can be dropped off directly at the shelter on route 247 in Ogden. If you would like to learn more about the Frontier Animal Society or meet a few dogs and cats who would like to get adopted, you can check their website at www.frontieranimalsociety.ca.

We love you and miss you very much,

Chelsea
