Galt stu­dents re­ceive awards

Novem­ber 15th was a night of celebration and achieve­ment as stu­dents, par­ents and staff gath­ered in the Alexan­der Galt au­di­to­rium to ac­knowl­edge their stu­dent’s aca­demic achieve­ments this past school year. Twelve dif­fer­ent school and board schol­ar­ship, bur­saries and gifts were given out to sev­eral stu­dents for their out­stand­ing aca­demic achieve­ment. Many com­mu­nity bur­saries, such as Bishop’s Univer­sity and Cham­plain Col­lege were also handed out to many stu­dents for their ex­cel­lence in the class­room.

Many awards were handed out on this night, but the one that held the high­est hon­our was The Gov­er­nor Gen­eral’s Aca­demic Medal pre­sented to Mar­i­lyne Trepanier for the high­est com­bined aca­demic stand­ing in level four and five. Trepanier also re­ceived sev­eral other awards, such as The French En­rich­ment award, English En­rich­ment award, CWL His­tory award, Physics and Chem­istry awards, Tom Lam­ing Award, Mar­garet Paulette Medal, Heather Fisher Me­mo­rial Tro­phy and The Everett “Doc” Porter Award. Trepanier was not the only one who had the hon­our to re­ceive a mul­ti­tude of awards.

Pa­tri­cia Ga­mache re­ceived the awards for Sci­ence En­rich­ment and Math Sci­ence Op­tion, as well as Jamie Coles Me­mo­rial Ci­ti­zen­ship Award and Mar­garet Paulette Medal and was the run­ner-up for the Everett “Doc” Porter Award. Alexan­der Galt’s for­mer pres­i­dent Gre­gory McBean also re­turned for awards night to re­ceive The Pres­i­dent’s Award as well as The Bob Hal­sall Stu­dent Ac­tiv­i­ties Awards and the Lieu­tenant Gov­er­nor’s Medal. Dar­ren Byrns, another for­mer re­turn­ing stu­dent was awarded The Norton-St. Lau­rent Medal.

Many other stu­dents achieved aca­demic ex­cel­lence in other cat­e­gories such as Amelie Provencher for re­ceiv­ing the tro­phy for Top Aca­demic Stu­dent for level 1. She also won a sil­ver medal and a prize for the 2013 Expo Sci­ence Hy­dro Que­bec Re­gional Sci­ence Fair. Sa­muel Wub­bolts for Top Aca­demic Stu­dent for level 2.

Ly­dia Tous­saint and Jus­tine Provencher for Top Aca­demic Stu­dent for level 3. Tous­saint also won a So­cial Stud­ies award for EH level 3 and Provencher won a level 3 Math and Sci­ence award and fi­nally Anna David­son for Top Aca­demic Stu­dent in level 4 as well as an award for Level 4 En­vi­ron­men­tal Sci­ence.

The evening con­cluded with a spe­cial to Chrissy Guil­lette, a for­mer Galt em­ployee who lost her bat­tle with can­cer this past school year. A schol­ar­ship was given out in her hon­our to Kyle Cork.

A spe­cial thank you to the aca­demic awards com­mit­tee from Galt of Stephanie Brown, Guil­laine Boucher and Mar­garet Young for or­ga­niz­ing an evening that many stu­dents and par­ents will cher­ish for­ever. The schol­ar­ship com­mit­tee of Linda Gil­bert, Marie Thibault and Bob Hal­sall must be ap­plauded for en­sur­ing so many bur­saries and schol­ar­ships were handed out.
