Spe­cial lunch for Care­givers

Town­ship­pers’As­so­ci­a­tion will be host­ing a spe­cial lun­cheon this Fri­day, in Ma­gog, for English-speak­ing nat­u­ral care­givers. Called “Food for Thought”, the lun­cheon will be an op­por­tu­nity for nat­u­ral care­givers, peo­ple who help care for ei­ther a fam­ily mem­ber or a friend on a reg­u­lar ba­sis, to learn about lo­cal re­sources and ways of deal­ing with the ex­tra stress as­so­ci­ated with car­ing for a loved one. An­i­mat­ing the lun­cheon will be Steve and Judy Law­son, who is now work­ing with Eric Ak­bar Manol­son of the Town­ship­pers As­so­ci­a­tion on the AP­PUI project. They will speak to the din­ers about the ben­e­fits of hav­ing a hobby.

“The Ap­pui project’s aim is to make peo­ple more sen­si­tive to the chal­lenges and needs of nat­u­ral care­givers and to in­crease sup­port for nat­u­ral care­givers. This lun­cheon is open to care­givers, peo­ple who are con­nected to care­givers, peo­ple per­haps with older par­ents who are just start­ing to re­al­ize that they may soon be a care­giver, or peo­ple who work with nat­u­ral care­givers. It’s quite com­mon for care­givers to be­come iso­lated and the need for sup­port for care­givers is grow­ing and grow­ing,” ex­plained Mr. Manol­son.

Served at the lunch will be le­mon dill chicken and home­made pies for dessert. Door prizes will also be drawn. The event takes place on Fri­day, De­cem­ber 13th, from noon to about 2:00, at St. Paul’s United Church, in Ma­gog, 211 des Pins. Small fees and reser­va­tions are no longer needed.
