Burnham and Dougherty Named Piper Athletes of the Month

KelseyBurnham from the Junior Girls Basketball team and Liam Dougherty from the Senior Boys Hockey team have been named the Piper Athletes of the month for November.

Burnham has helped her basketball team jump out to 5-1 record to start the season. Along the way the forward has averaged 10 points and 10 rebounds all the while defending the opposing teams best player. The grade 9 student has also displayed great versatility on the court by playing the guard position at times as well, and this is a credit to her court awareness, instincts and skill. The Lennoxville resident is also a Principal’s List student by maintaining an 87% average in the classroom. The team will look for her continued leadership and poise as they position themselves for a Provincial Championship in both the AAESQ and RSEQ leagues.

Dougherty is entering his third and final season with the Piper Hockey team as the team’s number one goaltender. Despite being outshot in every game the calm and quiet net minder has virtually taken the team on his back posting a 5-3-1 record and some flashy statistics. The graduating student athlete posted a 94.4 save percentage, 1.71 goals against average and two back to back shut outs that allowed the Pipers to capture the Massey Vanier Hockey Tournament. At one point the Magog resident was virtually unbeatable as he went one hundred and twelve minutes without giving up a goal. With some outstanding goaltending to start the year, the sixteen year old is proving why he is one of the best high school goalies in the province, if not the best. Dougherty enjoys a challenge, which is why he has a heavy academic workload with the most difficult courses.
