Budding sci­en­tists win prizes

Afour­teen year-old stu­dent from the Tri­o­let high school was awarded the top prize at the Ex­poS­ciences Hy­dro-Que­bec re­gional Estrie fi­nal which took place over the weekend at the Univer­sité

de Sher­brooke. Mar­ion Thenault, a sec­ondary 2 stu­dent, was awarded the Pre­mier prix Hy­droQue­bec, which comes with a $750 prize and a tro­phy, for her sci­ence project called: La plus grosse

boule de neige! She also won the ju­nior gold medal, a $1000 bur­sary from the Univer­sité de Sher­brooke, and a chance to take part in the Que­bec fi­nal.

The project Le MO911 of Olivier Boux and Mathieu Godin-Morin, col­lege stu­dents form the Sem­i­naire de Sher­brooke, was voted the best project by the pub­lic, gar­ner­ing them a $350 prize. In to­tal, $62,000 in prizes and bur­saries was awarded dur­ing last weekend’s event.

Veron­ica Lavallée, an Alexan­der Galt High School stu­dent, won a $1000 bur­sary from Bishop’s Univer­sity and $400 from the Al­coa Foun­da­tion for her project en­ti­tled H2O : Just add bac­te­ria.

Happy medal win­ners at the Expo-Sci­ences Hy­dro-Que­bec re­gional fi­nal which took place last weekend.
