Budding scientists win prizes
Afourteen year-old student from the Triolet high school was awarded the top prize at the ExpoSciences Hydro-Quebec regional Estrie final which took place over the weekend at the Université
de Sherbrooke. Marion Thenault, a secondary 2 student, was awarded the Premier prix HydroQuebec, which comes with a $750 prize and a trophy, for her science project called: La plus grosse
boule de neige! She also won the junior gold medal, a $1000 bursary from the Université de Sherbrooke, and a chance to take part in the Quebec final.
The project Le MO911 of Olivier Boux and Mathieu Godin-Morin, college students form the Seminaire de Sherbrooke, was voted the best project by the public, garnering them a $350 prize. In total, $62,000 in prizes and bursaries was awarded during last weekend’s event.
Veronica Lavallée, an Alexander Galt High School student, won a $1000 bursary from Bishop’s University and $400 from the Alcoa Foundation for her project entitled H2O : Just add bacteria.
