Public consultation on Farming
AForumsur l’Agriculture, organized to elaborate the Plan de developpement de la zone agricole (PDZA) of the Memphremagog MRC, has been planned for April 11th, at the Auberge Estrimont, in Orford. The objective of the Forum is to consult with numerous stakeholders to create a vision of agricultural development and to identify actions that will support and energize agriculture in the Memphremagog MRC.
During the month of March, consultations were held with about fifty farmers. During these meetings the issues faced by farmers were discussed. These elements were turned into objectives which will be presented during the Forum for consultation. The themes such as development of production, transformation and distribution, agrotourism, the dynamic use of the land as well as farm life and the next generation of farmers will be approached.
The regional office of MAPAQ is the main financial partner of this project, providing $40,000 to the MRC for the project. The Conference regionales des elus de l’Estrie (CRE-Estrie) also contributed $10,000.
The MRC is inviting anyone interest in the subject to take part in the Forum. More than 200 people are expected. To register, contact Sandra Gagnon before April 4th by calling 819 843-9292, ext 0, or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
