ShroveTuesdays also known as Mardi Gras, the day before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent Christians are encouraged to give up something for Lent and to eat plain simple food. As a result, many uses up rich ingredients such as butter, milk and eggs on Shrove Tuesday and what easier way to do that than by making pancakes. On March 4, the Coaticook Golf club was the site of the annual pancake supper sponsored by St. Stephens’ A.C.W. and friends. Reverend Barbara Wintle asked the blessing. The menu was pancakes, hash browns, bacon, sausages, varied salads, homemade rolls, baked beans and of course maple syrup with coffee, tea and cold drinks to accompany delicious deserts. There was an attendance of approximately 150 persons. The A.C.W wishes to thank the Golf Club, volunteers, those who donated food and all those who helped in any way and to thank everyone who came and we hope to continue this tradition for years to come.
