Local rivers might flood
Authoritieshave been keeping up surveillance on several rivers in the Townships where flooding may occur. Because there is still ice coverage on many rivers, the threat of ice jams is high. Municipalities like Hatley and Coaticook recently had holes drilled into their respective rivers, the Tomifobia and the Coaticook, to facilitate the break-up of the ice.
Besides the Tomifobia River in Hatley, the Coaticook River is under surveillance in Coaticook, Compton and Waterville. Also being watched is the Saint Francois River in Sherbrooke and the Lennoxville Borough, the Eaton River in CookshireEaton, and the Salmon and Saint Francois Rivers in Weedon.
LastFriday, the date of the Memphremagog Hospital Foundation’s 23rd golf tournament was announced along with several changes to the event. Opening the press conference was the event’s honorary president, Carmand Normand. “In our MRC of Memphremagog, we benefit from a modern Centre de santé et de services sociaux, equipped with experienced professionals and up-to-date equipment. And having benefitted from these exceptional services, I would like to thank them by getting involved in this event,” said Mr. Normand.
The event will have a new location, taking place on June 6th at the Mont Orford and Manoir des Sables golf clubs. The supper will take place at the Hotel Cheribourg and will be animated by Todd Pouliot and feature live music.
The president of the event’s organizing committee, Maitre Annie-Elizabeth Girard, is inviting people to get their tickets to the golf tournament or just for the supper to help raise this year’s objective for the hospital: $100,000.
