Bishop’s Univer­sity Re­searcher Builds The Bridge Be­tween Re­search And Com­mu­nity

Dr.Fuschia Sirois, a psy­chol­ogy pro­fes­sor and Canada Re­search Chair in Health and Well-be­ing at Bishop’s Univer­sity, has or­ga­nized a se­ries of in­ter­ac­tive talks at the Mem­phrem­a­gog Com­mu­nity Learn­ing Cen­tre (CLC) in Ma­gog. The course, ‘‘Path­ways to Psy­cho­log­i­cal Health and Well-be­ing in Ev­ery­day Life”, fea­tures talks from mem­bers of Bishop’s Psy­cho­log­i­cal Health and Well­be­ing Re­search Clus­ter as part of a se­ries of­fered at the CLC aimed at the English-speak­ing com­mu­nity. The course runs this Spring ev­ery Wed­nes­day night start­ing March 26th, 2014 from 6:30 to 8 pm. A Fall 2014 course is be­ing planned.

For Dr. Sirois, this course rep­re­sents a great op­por­tu­nity to present the re­search be­ing con­ducted by her col­leagues at Bishop’s Univer­sity. She ex­plains: “These in­ter­ac­tive talks are given in an ac­ces­si­ble and prac­ti­cal way. People go back home with knowl­edge and sim­ple tech­niques to im­prove their daily health and well-be­ing.’’

Dr. Sirois was ap­proached by the CLC in 2012 to con­trib­ute to their se­ries of course of­fer­ings. Her course has en­joyed great suc­cess, with the CLC reporting that the reg­is­tra­tion rates are among the high­est of the cour­ses of­fered at the Cen­tre.
