2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke announced Winners of the Sustainable Sport Event of the Year Award
TheCanadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA) have announced that the 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke are the winners of the Sustainable Sport Event of the Year. CSTA launched the new award as part of the 8th Annual PRESTIGE Awards luncheon. CSTA recognized the remarkable efforts of the Sherbrooke Host Society’s organizing committee in incorporating sustainable sport event principles into a variety of elements of the Games. This award is designed to complement CSTA’s most recently launched industry tool, the Sustainable Sport Event Template, which encourages sustainable sport event practices in the sport tourism industry. ‘‘We are very proud that the 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke are the first winners of Sustainable Sport Event of the Year Award’’ says Tom Quinn, Chairman of the Canada Games Council. ‘‘It’s terrific to see that the tremendous efforts put forth by so many individuals are properly recognized.’’ The CSTA prestige awards are presented annually in six categories to individuals, companies, events and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the success of the sport tourism industry across Canada in 2013. This year’s program generated 41 nominations.
