2013 Canada Sum­mer Games in Sher­brooke an­nounced Win­ners of the Sus­tain­able Sport Event of the Year Award

TheCana­dian Sport Tourism Al­liance (CSTA) have an­nounced that the 2013 Canada Sum­mer Games in Sher­brooke are the win­ners of the Sus­tain­able Sport Event of the Year. CSTA launched the new award as part of the 8th An­nual PRES­TIGE Awards lun­cheon. CSTA rec­og­nized the re­mark­able ef­forts of the Sher­brooke Host So­ci­ety’s or­ga­niz­ing com­mit­tee in in­cor­po­rat­ing sus­tain­able sport event prin­ci­ples into a va­ri­ety of el­e­ments of the Games. This award is de­signed to com­ple­ment CSTA’s most re­cently launched in­dus­try tool, the Sus­tain­able Sport Event Tem­plate, which en­cour­ages sus­tain­able sport event prac­tices in the sport tourism in­dus­try. ‘‘We are very proud that the 2013 Canada Sum­mer Games in Sher­brooke are the first win­ners of Sus­tain­able Sport Event of the Year Award’’ says Tom Quinn, Chair­man of the Canada Games Coun­cil. ‘‘It’s ter­rific to see that the tremen­dous ef­forts put forth by so many in­di­vid­u­als are prop­erly rec­og­nized.’’ The CSTA pres­tige awards are pre­sented an­nu­ally in six cat­e­gories to in­di­vid­u­als, com­pa­nies, events and or­ga­ni­za­tions that have made out­stand­ing con­tri­bu­tions to the suc­cess of the sport tourism in­dus­try across Canada in 2013. This year’s pro­gram gen­er­ated 41 nom­i­na­tions.
