MRC holds Agriculture Forum
On April 11th, the Memphremagog MRC held an Agriculture Forum at the Estrimont Suites & Spa, in Orford, one step towards the elaboration of the Plan de developpement de la zone agricole (PDZA). More than 120 people, farm producers, elected officials, and citizens took part. The objective was to consult those involved to come up with a vision of agricultural development and to identify the actions needed to support and energize farming activities in the MRC.
During the month of March, consultations in different sectors were held with about fifty farmers. Issues and objectives were identified at these meetings and then tackled during discussion groups at the Forum. The topics were: production development; transformation, distribution, marketing and agro-tourism; the dynamic occupation of the territory; agricultural life.
During the coming weeks, the MRC will make priorities and identify the organizations that could be involved in them. The selection of indicators will also allow the following of the evolution of the measures taken to realize concrete actions to support and develop the agricultural industry on the Memphremagog territory. These steps will lead to the finalization of the PDZA, to take place in June.
