Magog firefighters receive medals
Last week, the City of Magog presented two of their firefighters, Michel Murray and Daniel Oligny, the Governor General of Canada Medal for twenty years of service. Mr. Murray is a firefighter while Mr. Oligny is the fire prevention captain. The medals were presented by mayor Vicki May Hamm and the director of the Magog fire department, Luc Paré, in front of an audience of about seventy firefighters at the Magog Town Hall.
Ms. May Hamm spoke about the excellent work of the department, particularly in the last year. “I’d like to take this occasion to highlight the work that the firefighters accomplished during the emergency after the strong rains on September 2nd of last year. In the middle of the night, they evacuated people with the small boat of Unit 401 and other heavy equipment. I’d also like to mention the solidarity the firefighters showed towards the population of Lac-Megantic by working with their colleagues during the tragedy last summer,” said the mayor.
Seen at the medal ceremony were (l. to r.) mayor Vicki May
Hamm, Daniel Oligny, Michel Murray and Luc Paré.
