New Hotel in Stanstead

Stanstead Journal - - FROM PAGE ONE - Staff, Stenstead

If all goes well, the plateau at the corner of Notre-Dame and autoroute 55 may finally get a hotel built on it. So it transpired at last Monday’s Stanstead monthly meeting when innocently a resolution was passed authorizing the town to accept a conditional offer to buy the land parcel where the site is located. The offer is for $197,000 and is conditional to a 10 page annex of the resolution. Not wanting to disrupt the process, this newspaper conveniently forgot to ask who was involved in the project. What is known is that the conditions are full of the usual ifs and when, in other words, hopes are high and results uncertain.

This project, anyhow, has a better chance of seeing the light of day than the last one announced years ago: a 12 alley gas station selling its products a third higher in price than a couple of hundred meters away.

Meanwhile, the much announced super convention centre in Newport is off. It was to include a hotel on the site of the small shopping center that was to be demolished.
