Galt Library has important lessons for students this month
Tohelp students cope better with the stressful exam time coming up, and life in general, the Alexander Galt High School Library has planned “Healthy Selfie Month”, a month of special activities and displays to help students learn how to take better care of themselves.
The focus of the first week is nutrition and body image, leading to yesterday’s Anti-diet Day and demonstration of a smoothie-making bicycle in the cafeteria. For the library’s weekly display, students in Ms. Gandey’s art class created works reflecting the negative images many young people have of themselves. Every Wednesday during the month, healthy food like fresh vegetables and fruit will be served in the library. Tea Room activities, sponsored this year by the Sherbrooke Rotary Club, will take place on Thursdays and Fridays and will include meditation and relaxation techniques, stretching and breathing exercises and, naturally, the serving of tisanes and flavoured water.
Galt students took turns making smoothies with a smoothie-making stationary bicycle while Barbara Beech, of Student Services, served them up to students on “Anti-Diet Day”, held yesterday.
