Good results for police pilot project

Stanstead Journal - - NEWS - Victoria Vanier

The results were good after the first year of activities of the Equipe regionale recreotouristique of the Estrie. The officers increased their presence significantly on waterways and recreational trails in all of the MRCs, doubling their presence when compared to the previous year.

On the water, 70 fines were given out and 500 inspection notices, compared with about 30 fines and about 100 inspection notices of the year before. Patrollers on the waterways also expelled about thirty people from their watercraft for breaking various regulations.

On the recreational trails in the winter, officers stopped more than 1800 vehicles, four wheelers and snowmobiles, three times more than the previous year. Four times as many fines and seven times as many warnings were given out.

This project will continue in the 2014-2015 season.
