SPA finds 220 dogs in barn

TheSo­ci­ete pro­tec­trice des animaux de l’Estrie (SPA), in col­lab­o­ra­tion with MAPAQ, the In­ter­na­tional Hu­mane So­ci­ety and the Sureté du Que­bec, res­cued twelve cats and two hun­dred and twenty dogs, many of them preg­nant fe­males, from a puppy mill lo­cated in a barn in the Bon­sec­ours re­gion of the Town­ships.

“We quickly sent ten mem­bers of our per­son­nel, in­spec­tors, pa­trollers, vet­eri­nar­i­ans and tech­ni­cians to the site. This in­ter­ven­tion fol­lowed a rou­tine visit by in­spec­tors,” ex­plained Cathy Berg­eron of the SPA. “We pro­ceeded with the seizure for rea­sons of gen­eral neg­li­gence and non-re­spect of care-tak­ing norms.”

The an­i­mals in the worst shape were im­me­di­ately ex­am­ined by the SPA’s vet­er­e­nar­i­ans and tech­ni­cians. Be­cause of the large num­ber of an­i­mals saved, the dogs were taken to the MAPAQ emer­gency shel­ter and the cats were taken to the SPA Estrie.

Any­one in­ter­ested in adopt­ing one of these an­i­mals can leave their name, phone num­ber or email ad­dress with the SPA by call­ing 819 821-4727, ex­ten­sion 129.

Any­one who threat­ens the safety or well-be­ing of their an­i­mal could be fined be­tween $600 and $12,000. ETIAC League Cham­pi­onship ban­ner this past weekend at the Milby Golf Club.

Bishop’s Col­lege School held a 21-point lead go­ing into the fi­nal tour­na­ment thanks to a bril­liant per­for­mance last Wed­nes­day at the Duf­ferin Heights Golf and Coun­try Club. How­ever with each golfer the Pipers slowly chipped away at their lead. Anthony Gosselin ig­nited the boys from Galt with the low­est round of the day by post­ing a score of 74. Jakob Laplante and Liam Pankovitch put the Pipers within reach of the come­back with scores of 87 and 86 re­spec­tively. With ev­ery­one hud­dled around the 18th green await­ing the fi­nal group, it be­came clear that Jayson Ro­bil­lard made the come­back com­plete with his best score of the year a 79.

Galt would not only win the fi­nal team ma­jor of the year, but the League ban­ner as well for the low­est cu­mu­la­tive team to­tal for the sea­son. Stanstead Col­lege and Massey-Vanier rounded out the standings fin­ish­ing third and fourth. Gosselin also took home his third low gross tro­phy on the sea­son out of the four tour­na­ments.
