Soccer helpers badly needed!
The Stanstead soccer season is now underway, with games being held every Tuesday evening on the Stanstead College soccer fields from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Beginning on June 24th, games will be held twice a week, on Tuesday and Thursday evening, 6:00 to 8:30 pm. So far, 170 children are registered to play but that number is climbing. “The children are from four years old to seventeen,” said Janice Smith, the president of the local soccer association.
Volunteers are needed to help coach the children this year. There are an especially large number of 6 and 7 year olds who want to play and, so far, only three teams have been made at that age group when there are really enough kids for four teams. It’s difficult to get enough playtime to improve if you’re on a team with too many players. The association is looking for assistant coaches and they need only a basic knowledge of soccer. “Even if they can only help out one evening a week, we could use them,” said Ms. Smith. “We are also looking from more parents to join the organizing committee.”
“Mr. André Fratelli, of the Manoir Stanstead, has generously offered to let us use the fields behind the Manoir. Access to those fields is much more convenient for the young kids who will be playing on them,” said Mrs. Smith.
Anyone who would like to help coach this year or who would like to be on the organizing committee can call either Janice Smith, at 819 8762258, or Christine Allard at 819 876-2621.
