Bishop’s Univer­sity Re­veals Hon­orary Doc­tor­ate Re­cip­i­ents At 185Th Con­vo­ca­tion

OnJune 6 and 7, Chan­cel­lor Brian Le­vitt will pre­side over Bishop’s Univer­sity’s Con­vo­ca­tion cer­e­monies. The in­sti­tu­tion an­nounced to­day that, in ad­di­tion to con­fer­ring some 570 de­grees on mem­bers of the class of 2014, four no­table in­di­vid­u­als will be rec­og­nized for their out­stand­ing pro­fes­sional achieve­ments and their ser­vice to so­ci­ety.

Hon­orary doc­tor­ates in Civil Law will be awarded to: Ms. Renelle Anc­til (BU Class of ‘87), co-owner of the Groupe Anc­til, and Gen­eral Man­ager of the Sher­brooke and Ma­gog Rona l’En­trepôt stores; East­ern Town­ships res­i­dent, Ms. Louise Penny, C.M., best­selling au­thor of a se­ries of mys­tery sto­ries set in Que­bec; The Hon­ourable Bob Rae, P.C., O.C., O.O., Q.C., Pre­mier of On­tario from 1990 to 1995 and In­terim Leader of the Lib­eral Party of Canada from 2011 to 2013; and Ms. Ir­shad Manji,

ed­u­ca­tor, broad­caster, and pro­moter of pro­gres­sive Is­lam.

Michael Gold­bloom, C.M., Prin­ci­pal and Vice-Chan­cel­lor, said: ‘‘It gives us great pride to ac­knowl­edge the re­mark­able achieve­ments of these in­di­vid­u­als. They ex­em­plify ex­cel­lence, de­ter­mi­na­tion and out­stand­ing so­ci­etal con­tri­bu­tion.’’

On Fri­day, June 6, an af­ter­noon Con­vo­ca­tion cer­e­mony will take place at 4 p.m. for grad­u­ates earn­ing de­grees and cer­tifi­cates in Busi­ness. On Satur­day, June 7, Con­vo­ca­tion cer­e­monies will be held at 10:30 a.m. for grad­u­ates earn­ing de­grees in Hu­man­i­ties and Ed­u­ca­tion. Grad­u­ates re­ceiv­ing de­grees in the Nat­u­ral or So­cial Sci­ences will par­tic­i­pate in an af­ter­noon cer­e­mony at 3 p.m. on June 7.

This year’s vale­dic­to­rian, Erik Schwegler from North Van­cou­ver, Bri­tish Columbia, is a Busi­ness stu­dent with a con­cen­tra­tion in mar­ket­ing. Mr. Schwegler will proudly ad­dress the grad­u­at­ing class at all three cer­e­monies.
