IGA turns ten

Stanstead Journal - - NEWS - Staff, Stanstead

It could have been a Provigo, located in what has become the local Stonehenge, fortifying the local downtown but, rather, it became an IGA located in what was then nothing on Fairfax.

Those who met André Roy then saw a jittery man, the self-assurance masking the doubt of the venture. We remember the days leading to the opening, when every soul in the family was asked to contribute, his parents giving hundreds of hours to replenish shelves, cleaning up.

Today, the local IGA is a fixture and if, on Saturday, it will offer the usual free food and stuff associated with a tenth anniversary, it is us who should thank André and Kathy. This town deserves the type of commerces associated with its size. To celebrate the anniversary, the store will host a GOURMET FAIR this Saturday, June 14th, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Besides some tasty food there will be music, activities and drawings.
