Local students win awards

Two local students were names junior male and female athletes of the year at Stanstead College’s Baccalaureate and Prize-Giving Service this past Saturday at Centenary United Church.
Kayla Ouellet of Stanstead was the recipient of Sheila Ferguson Shield as the junior girl athlete of the year. The Grade 9 student was a member of the junior soccer, basketball and rugby teams and won Junior S awards for soccer and rugby. Kayla also won the Eric T. Webster Award, presented to a deserving returning student.
Finally, Kayla’s many contributions to school life earned her the Wilder Shield, presented to the junior student with the most positive influence. This is considered the top prize in the junior school.
Will Huckins of Ogden won the S.F. Abbott Memorial Shield as the junior athlete of the year. The Grade 8 student won letter awards for each of the three sports he participated in this year: bantam soccer, bantam hockey and junior rugby.
Other local winners included Mackenzy St-Pierre, Grade 7, of Ogden, who won the Kenneth Reed Memorial Award presented to a local junior student returning to the school; and Abby Murray, Grade 7, of Stanstead, who won the Thespian Shield for Acting.
