Last Friday, Orford MNA Pierre Reid, who was recently appointed the president of the caucus of Liberal deputies in the Estrie region, announced investments of over 181 million dollars in roadwork for the 2014 – 2016 period in the Estrie region.

“Besides the work to maintain the safety and quality of our roads network, I am happy with the lengthening work on autoroute 410,” said Mr. Reid.

Investments in the Estrie region can be broken down like this: road preservation, $76,985,000; preservation of structures, $45,218,000; improvements to road network, $5,468,000; development of road network, $53,650,000.

These investments will cover: the continuation of autoroute 410, from the end of the Dunant Street interchange to the interchange of routes 108 and 143; the reconstruction of the bridge over the Tomifobia River on route 141 in Ayer’s Cliff; reconstruction of the bridge over the Whitton River on route 161 in Nantes; paving of route 249 and Rang 2 in St. Francois Xavier de Brompton; paving of route 255 and route 216, in Dudswell and SaintCamille.

The choice of projects was motivated by a constant worry to put road safety at the top of the priority list. To this effect, the Ministry of Transport launched a publicity campaign on June 16th with the theme: “When it’s orange, we are doubly careful”, to remind drivers to be attentive and vigilant, and to reduce their speed in work zones.
