Stanstead Journal - - NEWS - Victoria Vanier Stanstead

Stanstead is holding its summer celebration this Saturday, the annual Borderfest! The Stanstead Recreation Association has pulled out all the stops this time, adding lots of entertainment to the day’s activities which take place at the Sports Complex near the Pat Burns Arena.

The 5km Road Race will kick off the event at 9:30 am sharp with runners heading out from the Stanstead Town Hall. Most of them will be back in time to watch the parade which begins at 10:30. The parade will be announced in front of the Colby-Curtis Museum and people have until Friday evening to call Nick Wood at the Stanstead Entertainment Centre (819 876-7979) to register to be in the parade. Parade par- ticipants must arrive before 10:00 am, on Saturday, to line up. A few volunteers are still needed to block off roads during the parade; anyone interested can call Nick Wood.

The Colby- Curtis Museum is holding a Taste of the Region event on its grounds under the big tent. Many vendors from the Stanstead Market, which, exceptionally, will not run this Sunday because of the BorderFest, will be taking part in the sale at the Colby-Curtis Museum.

At the official site there will be food vendors, inflatable games, and WIXX Animation activities for older kids. The CAB RH Rediker will organize children’s games for the younger kids. Kids of all ages will enjoy having their face painted, watching the

ETWA wrestlers, having a go at the ‘dunk tank’ or visiting the Petting Zoo.

A bean bag tournament will be organized for the afternoon, beginning at 1:30. There will also be bingo under the tent and the Firefighters Games, both beginning at 2:00 pm. A magician will woo the audience at 4:00 pm, followed by the talent and karaoke show at 5:00.

The semi-local singer with ‘The Voice’, Dany Flanders, has a hard time passing up a chance to sing for his home crowd so he’ll be returning to the BorderFest this year, singing in the big tent at 7:30 pm. The fireworks will be set off at 10:00 pm and anyone with any life left in them after that can head over to the Stanstead Entertainment Centre for an After Party with DJ Mario.

Everyone is welcome, near and far, to take part in this free, family friendly event.
