On July 3rd, around 7:00 pm, an 82 year-old man living in a Magog seniors residence was reported as missing. Suffering from Alzheimer’s, the man was found thanks to the resident of an apartment building on Dumoulin Street who discovered him sleeping near the stairs inside the building. He was safe and sound and was taken back to his residence. For three hours businesses, supermarkets, bars, the hospital, taxis and Magog firefighters collaborated with the Regie de Police Memphremagog (RPM) in looking for the man.
A Stanstead Township resident got a big ticket while speeding on autoroute 10 last Thursday in the Saint Elie d’Orford area. Driving more than 160 km/hr in a 100 kilometre zone, the driver received a fine of $1,100 and received 14 demerit points. He also had his driver’s permit taken away for seven days.
On July 3rd, in Magog, at 2:30 in the morning, a 49 year-old woman was seen taking construction material from a building site by a witness. The woman was using a bicycle and a small trailer for a child to steal lumber when she was confronted by the witness. She had already loaded two 2 x 6 planks and was in the middle of loading a twelve foot long beam. Surprised, the woman told the witness her name and then left. The witness then called the police and gave them her name and the RPM went to the area of town where she lived (she was known to the police) and found her with the bike and trailer as she was arriving home. She was arrested for theft and later released, promising to appear in court.
