Stanstead Soccer Stars
fourteen teams in the Stanstead soccer league had their big finale, last Saturday, along with their customary BBQ. “We had 183 players registered this year, up a little from last year,” said Janice Smith, the retiring president of the league. Several of the teams had a few too many players this year because there weren’t enough coaches, resulting in less real game time for the players. “We even had a grandmother coaching this year – now that’s stepping up!” added Janice. The league is in dire need of new coaches, assistant coaches and committee members. Anyone interested can call Janice Smith (876-2258) or Christine Allard (876-2621) for more info. Volunteer coaches get to register one child for free the year after they coach. Organizers were very thankful for the use of the Stanstead College fields and the grounds of the Manoir Stanstead for games.
